The raw material ratio of bone China for ceramic tableware

The raw material ratio of bone China in ceramic tableware usually needs to follow a certain range. The core components include bone meal, clay, feldspar and quartz. The following is a detailed introduction:

Bone powder

Bone meal is the core raw material of bone China, generally accounting for more than 36% of the raw material. Internationally recognized high-quality bone China requires that the bone meal content be at least 40%, or even 45% - 51%, with cow bone meal being the best. Bone meal, after being calcined at high temperatures, generates hydroxyapatite crystals, which endow porcelain with light transmittance and ivory-like luster. The higher the content, the better the light transmittance and the higher the strength of the porcelain body, but the production difficulty also increases accordingly.

Clay

Clay is the basic raw material for manufacturing ceramics, accounting for 5% to 20% of the raw materials. It is a hydrated aluminosilicate mineral formed by the long-term weathering and geological processes of feldspar rocks in the Earth's crust. It has unique plasticity and cohesiveness, that is, molding performance and firing performance. After being mixed with water to form soft clay, it can be processed through shaping, glazing and coloring, high-temperature firing and other techniques to become a compact and hard ceramic vessel.

Feldspar

Feldspar is used in ceramic production as body material, glaze material, pigment flux, etc., accounting for 5% to 20% of the raw materials. It can lower the firing temperature, enabling porcelain to maintain good adhesion at high temperatures.

Quartz

Quartz is the main component of the Earth's crust and an indispensable basic raw material for the silicate industry, accounting for 30% to 60% of the raw materials. It can enhance the strength and wear resistance of porcelain, and at the same time improve the luster of bone China.
